Week 5 Discussion Guide: Week 5 Discussion
Week 5 Discussion Guide
Use these questions with your group or for personal reflection at the end of the week.
Opening (5 minutes)
- When have you most felt like Hagar — unseen, in the wilderness? What helped?
Observation (10 minutes)
- What moments this week showed God’s faithfulness in contrast to human attempts to “engineer” the promise?
- Where did you see extravagant generosity or hospitality in these chapters?
Interpretation (15 minutes)
- Why does Paul quote Genesis 15:6 (“he believed and it was counted as righteousness”) so many times in the New Testament? What is at stake in that verse?
- God says “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” in response to Sarah’s laughter. How does this question function throughout Scripture?
Application (15 minutes)
- Abraham intercedes boldly for Sodom, appealing to God’s own character. What would it look like to pray that way for someone in your life?
- “El-roi” — the God who sees. Who in your community might be feeling unseen right now? How could you reflect God’s seeing to them this week?
Prayer (5 minutes)
Close in intercession for specific people or situations your group wants to bring before God — modeling the bold, character-grounded prayer of Abraham.
