Why This Verse

This is the key that unlocks the Joseph narrative — and arguably one of the most powerful statements of divine providence in the Bible. Joseph does not deny that his brothers sinned against him; he says “you sold me.” But he immediately reframes the entire story: God sent me. Both things are true simultaneously. Memorizing this verse gives you a vocabulary for the hardest question in faith: how can God be at work in the worst things that happen to us?
