Week 7 Discussion Guide: Week 7 Discussion
Week 7 Discussion Guide
Use these questions with your group or for personal reflection at the end of the week.
Opening (5 minutes)
- Describe a time when you were faithful to something and it seemed to make things worse. What happened?
Observation (10 minutes)
- The phrase “the LORD was with Joseph” appears four times in chapters 39–40. What was Joseph’s outward situation each time it appeared?
- How does Joseph consistently respond when he has the opportunity to take credit for his gifts?
Interpretation (15 minutes)
- Psalm 105:17 says “God sent a man ahead of them” — describing Joseph’s sale into slavery. How does this frame human evil within divine providence, without excusing the evil?
- Why do you think the cupbearer forgot Joseph for two years? What does this tell us about how God’s timing works?
Application (15 minutes)
- Joseph served others with excellence even in unjust circumstances with no visible audience. Where in your life are you called to faithfulness in obscurity?
- “My times are in your hand” (Psalm 31:15). What is one situation in your life right now that you need to release to God’s timing?
Prayer (5 minutes)
Close in prayer for those in the group who are in a “prison” season — waiting, forgotten, or suffering unjustly — asking God to remind them that he is with them in it.
