Week 6 Discussion Guide: Week 6 Discussion
Week 6 Discussion Guide
Use these questions with your group or for personal reflection at the end of the week.
Opening (5 minutes)
- What is one thing you would have a hard time giving up if God asked you to?
Observation (10 minutes)
- What parallels did you notice between Abraham’s call in chapter 12 and Rebekah’s choice in chapter 24?
- Where did you see the theme of God providing — in different ways — across this week’s reading?
Interpretation (15 minutes)
- How does the binding of Isaac in chapter 22 function as a preview of the cross? What are the similarities, and what is the crucial difference?
- Paul uses the Jacob/Esau story to discuss divine election in Romans 9. What does this passage contribute to understanding how God’s grace works?
Application (15 minutes)
- Lot’s gradual accommodation to Sodom is a slow-motion warning. In what areas of life is gradual accommodation a risk for you or your community?
- Esau despised his birthright. What are the “birthrights” — the spiritual privileges and inheritances — that are most at risk of being treated carelessly in your own life?
Prayer (5 minutes)
Close in prayer, thanking God for the provision of the Lamb, and asking him to protect each person from trading sacred things for temporary comfort.
