Week 4 Discussion Guide: Week 4 Discussion

Week 4 Discussion Guide

Use these questions with your group or for personal reflection at the end of the week.

Opening (5 minutes)

Observation (10 minutes)

  1. What patterns of faith and failure did you notice in Abram’s story this week?
  2. Where did you see God intervening to protect the covenant promise despite human mistakes?

Interpretation (15 minutes)

  1. Genesis 12:3 promises that “all families of the earth shall be blessed” through Abram. How does Paul’s reading of this in Galatians 3:8 help us understand what God was doing?
  2. Who is Melchizedek, and why does the author of Hebrews spend so much time on this brief encounter?

Application (15 minutes)

  1. Abram returned to his altar after his detour through Egypt. Where is your “altar” — the place and practice you return to when you’ve wandered?
  2. Abram’s generosity to Lot was rooted in his trust in God’s promise. How would deeper trust in God’s provision change how generous you are?

Prayer (5 minutes)

Close in prayer for one another, asking God to grow each person’s trust in his provision — so that they can hold things loosely and be generous with what they have.
