Week 2: Memory Verse
Simeon had been waiting his entire life for this moment. The Holy Spirit had promised he would not die before seeing the Messiah, and when Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus into the Temple for the routine purification rite, Simeon recognizes what no one else in that crowded Temple court can see: this baby is God’s salvation made visible.
What makes Simeon’s song remarkable is its scope. He does not say “salvation for Israel” alone — he says “all peoples,” “Gentiles,” and “Israel.” In a single breath, an elderly Jewish man in the Temple declares that this child will reshape the boundaries of God’s people forever.
