Week 1: Memory Verse
John 1:14 is the hinge of the entire prologue — and arguably the entire New Testament. Everything before it in the prologue establishes who the Word is (eternal, divine, the agent of creation). Everything after it describes what the Word does among us (reveals the Father, gives grace upon grace). This single verse connects the cosmic to the concrete: the God who spoke galaxies into existence now cries, nurses, sleeps.
The Greek word for “dwelt” is eskenosen — literally “tabernacled.” John is telling his readers that what the wilderness tabernacle was for Israel, Jesus’ body now is for the world: the place where God’s glory resides among his people.
Connections This Week
- Day 1 — John's prologue is the source of this verse, establishing the incarnation as the theological foundation for everything that follows
- Day 3 — Mary's Magnificat celebrates the same reality: God entering human history through a humble vessel
- Day 5 — The birth in Bethlehem is this verse made visible: the Word in flesh, wrapped in swaddling cloths
